Where we come from

We grew up in a world where food was much more than a meal. It was the smell of our mothers' cooking filling the house, the sound of family gathering around the table, and the warmth of a home where there was always an extra plate for anyone who walked through the door.

Our story begins in the heart of the Levant, where the traditions of Syria's great cities meet the vibrant flavours of Beirut and the Lebanese coast. From the kitchens of Damascus and Aleppo to the shores of the Mediterranean, every place has its own recipes, spices and customs.

These are the flavours we grew up with, the dishes our mothers made with love, and the memories we carried with us wherever life took us.

Two salads side by side: parsley-heavy tabbouleh and fattoush with crisp bread and sumac.

A question in Sofia

Years later, here in Sofia, a simple family conversation turned into a dream.

What if we could bring a little piece of our home here?

That question brought us together. Our cousins joined us, and what began as an idea became a shared family project.

Each of us brought something different, but we all shared the same vision: a place where food is prepared with care, traditions are celebrated, and everyone is welcomed like family.

And so, Levantine was born.

More than hummus

We didn't want to open just another Middle Eastern restaurant. We wanted to share the food that goes beyond the familiar hummus, falafel and shawarma: the slow-cooked dishes, handmade kibbeh, colourful mezze, family recipes and the little secrets that make every mother's kitchen special.

A platter of main dishes: skewers, lamb and roasted vegetables.

Our menu is a journey through the Levant, inspired by generations of home cooking and the different cities that shaped our family's taste. We respect those recipes while adding our own modern touch, without losing their soul.

The way we welcome people

But Levantine is about more than food. It's about the way we grew up welcoming people.

In our homes, guests were never treated like strangers. The table was always full, the conversations were long, and nobody was allowed to leave hungry.

Today, we're bringing that same spirit to Sofia. As a family-run restaurant, we want Levantine to be a place where friends meet, families celebrate, strangers become familiar faces, and every visit feels a little like coming home.

We may have opened our doors in Sofia, but our hearts, memories and recipes carry the spirit of the entire Levant.
